Principal Data Engineer: Data Platform - FTC [UK]

Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Principal Data Engineer to join us working with our media client as part of their Data Platform team. The role is focused on establishing the foundation of operational excellence for their data platform and ultimately guaranteeing that the data infrastructure runs efficiently and with high availability.The role will also involve empowering data engineering teams to establish clear Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and data contracts, thereby building confidence and trust in the data.The successful applicant will lead the design and implementation of robust operational excellent frameworks, drive initiatives to enhance the reliability of data infrastructure, collaborate with data engineering/product teams to implement SLAs, implement comprehensive monitoring across the data, develop incident response protocols and champion practices that improve data quality. As a major contributor to the team, this person will have previous experience of working in Agile environment, be a great communicator who enjoys collaborating with other teams and a team player who encourages collaboration and contribution.
Essential Key Skills and Responsibilities
You will:
- be a data evangelist with extensive experience of data engineering
- have experience setting up data contracts and a large focus on data quality
- have expert knowledge of AWS with AWS certifications
- have operational and practical knowledge of AWS CloudWatch
- be a strong team player who enjoys collaborating with development squads
- have an eagerness to learn with a growth mindset
- have professional experience of working in projects using Agile development processes

Experience
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field or similar work-based experience.
- Proven experience as a Principal Software Engineer ideally with a focus on media-related projects.
- Very good working knowledge of standard software development frameworks, techniques and methodologies.
- Experience with providing coaching and mentoring
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team, contributing to the development of business scenarios.
- Knowledge of software development tools and technologies.
- You are flexible and curious in your approach
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Additional information
Duration of the contract: initially 12 months with the possibility of extension – contract FTC (full-time)
